Art InterSection: Vitiana

a unique art experience in Italy with 5 master instructors in the summer of 2007

To live for art, is to live a life of questioning. And if you believe, as I do, that to live for art demands that every other part of life be moved towards one end, then the question, “How shall I live?” is fierce.

––Jeanette Winterson/Art Objects

Art InterSection: Vitiana is a one-week art workshop with noted artists and educators:

Angela Ellsworth (drawing/performance art)
James Hajicek (photography)
Julie Hampton (poetry/yoga)
Tania Katan (playwriting)
Carol Panaro-Smith (mixed media/bookmaking)

Vitiana, Italy is a remote and beautiful medieval village situated on the top of a hill in Tuscany. It is about 40 minutes from Lucca and about 90 minutes from Florence. Workshops and meals will take place in a 17th century house. Housing is located in a small bed-and-breakfast just minutes away from the workshop site.
Each day will be an intersection of interdisciplinary arts: yoga, drawing, poetry, photography, bookmaking, mixed media, performance art, and writing. Through these experiences––drawing with light, drawing on paper and drawing from our stories––our lives will collide with art and change the way we live. Central to this experience will be communal meals at the Rosenclaire House serving food from the region in a traditional Italian manner. This program is limited to a maximum of 11 participants.

Dates: May 24 – 31, 2007
Cost: $1875.00.
Includes workshop fees and materials, all meals in Vitiana, local transportation including pick up and drop off at Florence airport and trips to Lucca and Barga. Does not include airfare to Florence or housing. Housing will range from $250 to $600 depending on amenities desired.
Informational Meeting: Sunday, September 10, 2006
